Nigeria: 'Nigerian Military Most Disciplined'

The Defence spokesman, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar has said the Nigerian Armed Forces is one of the most disciplined in the world.
He stated this yesterday during a meeting with editorial team of Media Trust Limited, publishers of the Daily Trust titles at the company's corporate headquarters in Abuja.
Fielding questions on the Human Right record of the Military Abubakar said: "We are one of the most disciplined Armed Forces in the world, you would hardly hear indiscriminate firing from us, you don't fire if you are not ordered to fire, even in the north east where the situation is volatile."
He explained that most of the cases levelled against the military are out of context as criticisms are one sided. He insisted that military respects human rights of persons saying "that is why Boko Haram captives don't want to go back."
Abubakar argued that the Nigerian Armed Forces at every location where it is operating has operational directive and rules of engagement.
He stated that if soldiers do not follow the rules, they would have themselves to blame adding that: "the military of today is different because human rights observance is in line with global best practices."
He added that: "The current leadership inaugurated a human rights committee; we teach them the dos and don'ts."
He said: "Boko Haram has no single territory where it flag is raised, rescue operations are being intensified, Boko Haram of yesterday is not Boko Haram of today."
